Whether the machine has stopped mid-cycle, will not drain or is displaying an error code, the symptoms help the engineer begin diagnosing the problem.

Washing machine not drainingWater remains in the drum, the drain stage does not complete or the programme stops with water still inside.

Washing machine not spinningThe drum does not enter the spin cycle, spins incorrectly or clothes remain unusually wet after the programme.

Washing machine not fillingThe programme starts but the machine does not take in water correctly or appears to wait without filling.

Washing machine leakingWater appears beneath or around the appliance, from the door area, hoses or during part of the wash cycle.

Washing machine not startingThe appliance will not begin a programme, appears unresponsive or starts and then stops unexpectedly.

Washing machine not heatingThe wash does not appear to reach the expected temperature or the programme behaves unusually during the heating stage.

Noisy washing machineKnocking, grinding, rumbling or other unusual noises occur while washing, draining or spinning.

Door will not open or lockThe washing machine door remains locked after the programme or the cycle will not start because the door is not locking correctly.

Washing machine error codes

If your washing machine is showing an error code, include the exact code when booking together with the appliance make and model where available. Error codes differ between manufacturers and sometimes between models, so the same letters or numbers should not automatically be assumed to mean the same fault on every washing machine.

Codes may appear as letters, numbers or combinations such as E, F, H, UE, OE or similar. Providing the complete code helps us understand what the appliance itself is reporting before the engineer attends.

What can cause a washing machine to stop working?

A visible symptom does not always identify the failed component by itself. Drainage problems, for example, can have several possible causes, while a machine that will not start may involve the door-locking system, controls, electrical supply or another fault. The engineer therefore diagnoses the appliance rather than replacing a component based only on the symptom.

Before the visitWhere available, have the washing machine make, model number and any error code ready. Tell us when the fault happens and what the machine does immediately before it stops.

During the visitThe engineer assesses the reported fault and carries out the repair during the visit where possible. Parts or further work are discussed separately when required.

If the washing machine is actively leaking

If it is safe to do so, stop using the appliance and prevent further water from spreading. When booking, tell us where the water appears and at what stage of the programme the leak happens. Do not dismantle the appliance to investigate the fault.
