Why is my fridge not cooling or freezer not freezing?

Cooling problems can have different causes, and the same symptom can occur with different faults. Temperature controls, sensors, airflow, fans, defrost systems, electrical components and the refrigeration system can all affect appliance operation. An engineer therefore needs to diagnose the appliance before confirming which component or repair is required.

Compressor or cooling-system problem?

Customers sometimes describe a non-cooling fridge or freezer as a “compressor problem”. A compressor is one possible part of the refrigeration system, but poor cooling does not by itself confirm that the compressor has failed.
